The Blue Bistro by: Elin Hilderbrand

Title: The Blue Bistro
Author: Elin Hilderbrand
Publisher: St. Martin’s Paperbacks
Format: Paperback
Pages: 358

Description:

Adrienne Dealey has spent the past six years working for hotels in exotic resort towns. This summer she has decided to make Nantucket home. Left flat broke by her ex-boyfriend, she is desperate to earn some fast money. When the desirable Thatcher Smith, owner of Nantucket's hottest restaurant, is the only one to offer her a job, she wonders if she can get by with no restaurant experience. Thatcher gives Adrienne a crash course in the business...and they share an instant attraction.

But there is a mystery about their situation: What is it about Fiona, the Blue Bistro's chef, who captures Thatcher's attention again and again? And why does such a successful restaurant seem to be in its final season before closing its doors for good? Despite her uncertainty, Adrienne must decide whether she'll move on, as she always does--or finally open her heart…

My Review:

Adrienne has spent most of her life bouncing around from place to place.  When she ends up in Nantucket after her latest failed relationship, she ends up at The Blue Bistro where the food is heavenly and the owner is eager to hire her regardless of her lack of experience.

There she learns a little about Fiona the hidden chef that does not pictures and is all about the food.  She also learns about the relationship between Thatcher and Fiona who are business partners and best friends.

Adrienne didn’t anticipate falling for her boss.  They have many ups and downs due to the relationship between Fiona and Thatcher.

This was a great romantic book without over emphasizing their relationship.  Definitely a great romantic read with lots of good cooking.

A Beautiful Place to Die by: Philip R. Craig

Title: A Beautiful Place To Die
Author: Philip R. Craig
Publisher: Mass Market Paperback
Pages: 224
Series: Martha’s Vineyard Mystery #1

Description:

During his career as a Boston cop, Jeff "J.W." Jackson saw enough of the evil that men do to last a lifetime. So he retired to the serenity of Martha's Vineyard to spend his days fishing for blues and wooing a sexy nurse named Zee. But when a local's boat mysteriously explodes off the coast, killing an amiable young drifter, Jackson finds himself reluctantly drawn back into the investigative trade. For there is a serpent loose in paradise -- and it's contaminating Jackson's lovely, peaceful island with its poisonous venom of drugs and death.

My Review:

This book follows retired Boston Cop Jeff Jackson, more commonly known as J.W. When a local ship blows up he is contacted by the sister of the owner to investigate to find out what happened.  Turns out the case involved illegitimate children, drugs etc.

Jeff has his hands full as he becomes the target of an angry drug addicted kid.  Jeff also bonds with a nurse named Zee, they seem to be bonding very well in this budding friendship/romance.

This is a cute book that is full of mystery, action, catching fish and so much more.

My Review:

Cleo Coyle really stirs things up with this coffeehouse mystery.  Her main character Clare comes to work at the Village Blend to find her assistant manager laying dead with coffee grounds everywhere.  She calls the police who come down and imply it looks like an accident and not homicide.  Clare doesn't buy that anymore than she buys bad coffee.  She is quick to put her sleuthing skills to the test to see if she can find out what happened.

Clare and her ex-husband Matteo are on track to find out what happened to their employee, with no short list of who did it, there is definitely a lot of colorful suspects.  A great book including references to great coffee, and how to make a great coffee.  Definitely a cute cozy mystery to say the least.

Author Article by: Deborah Coonts

Inspiration for the Lucky Series: A Sinful Escape
By Deborah Coonts,
Author of Lucky Stiff
When my then fifteen-year-old son suggested a family relocation to Las Vegas, my then husband and I started packing. Okay, maybe we didn't think it through, but after five years in suburban Maryland we had yet to find our niche, so we were ready for a change. Little did I know, the story I had been looking for was lurking in Sin City. In retrospect, perhaps it should've been obvious, but back then I was pretty naive.

With bags packed and good wishes ringing in our ears (The one I remember the best was: You're going to finish raising a hormonal teenage male in Las Vegas? Are you on drugs? I'm still thankful those 'friends' didn't call Social Services), we packed two cars and a moving van and headed toward the bright lights.

A lot of people say Vegas is an acquired taste -- not for me.
Where else outside of maybe New York City can you watch an everchanging cross-section of the world parade past and still go home and sleep in your own bed? Absolute heaven for a storyteller.
However, it is true that everyone sees something different in Vegas.
I see magic.

And this is the Vegas I wanted to write about. The fun stuff. Not bodies buried in the desert. Not mobsters. Not fools losing everything. But the real Vegas. The forty-five million visitors a year -- each of whom are on a mission of mischief, the celebrities, the singers, the shows, the amazing shopping -- that Vegas.
My Vegas.

Wanna Get Lucky?is the beginning of the story. Of course, the story had to be set in a huge strip casino/resort, and since I'm a storyteller, not a reporter, I created my own -- The Babylon. And who better to tell the story than a woman in her early thirties (old enough to know better, but young enough to ignore it) who is the Head of Customer Relations?

On a roll, I wrote the first sentence of the story -- I'm big on beginnings -- then came to a screeching halt.
Great, forty-three words into the next Great American Novel and I had writer's block. This was going to be harder than I thought.

That's when I started hearing voices. At first, I thought maybe this ought to worry me, but then I remembered an interview with P. D. James. When asked how she came up with her stories, she said something to the effect that she sat in a room with her characters, listened to what they had to say, then wrote it down. I was so there. And, by all accounts, Ms. James did all right. So, if it was good enough for her, it was fine for little ol' me.

Lucky, my protagonist, was the first character to speak to me. Apparently fed-up with my waffling, she spoke up loud and clear -- she told me her name -- while I was minding my own business sitting on the porch at the Grand Lake Lodge in Colorado. Vacation interrupts. Two women and one man (my then husband) do not make a great vacation. Of course, if we'd been in Vegas, that would've been just an interesting evening . . . or so I've been told.

But I digress. Being given my protagonist's name was a good start, but I was hoping for more. Lucky didn't disappoint -- she introduced me to her friends: The Great Teddie Divine (Las Vegas' premier female impersonator who is straight and, understandably, has a tough time picking up women), Miss Patterson (Lucky's plucky assistant and a cougar), the Beautiful Jeremy Whitlock (a private investigator and prime cougar bait), The Big Boss, and Mona (Lucky's bordelloowning mother).

The whole female impersonator thing sort of opened the door for me. I mean, some of the impersonators in this town are amazing. And then I started wondering . . . well, anyway, I finally ended-up wondering what would a straight guy do if he spent his professional life sheathed in Oscar de la Renta? How would he do with women? Of course, this being my fantasy, I decided he might do all right. Think about it. A man who can speak Jimmy Choo? A man who can help me with make-up (I'm not a girly-girly.) A man who would not only know who Rodgers and Hammerstein were, but who could even hum a few bars of I'm Gonna Wash that Man Right Outta My Hair. All this and sex too? Hey, a girl can dream, can't she? So, Teddie was born.

The cougar thing . . . well, I'm of a certain age -- old enough to find that concept interesting. Enough said.

And who wouldn't wonder what it would be like to have a mother in 'the business'? This is Vegas after all.

The cast set, I actually had to come up with a story. Porn stars and spouse swappers?

The genesis for the porn star angle was a chapter of a book, Skin City by Jack Sheehan. Jack is a Vegas author and quite wonderful. The vignette he wrote that inspired me was a recitation of his attendance at the real adult film awards held in Vegas each January. I laughed so hard I had tears rolling down my face. So, of course, I had to have porn stars -- of my own creation, of course.

And the spouse swappers -- that idea came right out of Sixty Minutes. Put the two together, along with a young woman who falls out of a tour helicopter, landing in the middle of the Pirate Show in front of Treasure Island, add some Vegas magic, and romance . . .

So, do you Wanna Get Lucky?

Author Bio

Deborah Coonts, author of Lucky Stiff, says her mother tells her she was born in Texas a very long time ago, though she's not totally sure -- her mother can't be trusted. But she was definitely raised in Texas on barbeque, Mexican food and beer. She currently resides in Las Vegas, where family and friends tell her she can't get into too much trouble. Silly people. Coonts has built her own business, practiced law, flown airplanes, written a humor column for a national magazine, and survived a teenager. She is the author of the Lucky O'Toole Las Vegas adventure series.

Her first book, Wanna Get Lucky?, was released in 2010.

Divergent by: Victoria Roth Review

Title: Divergent
Author: Veronica Roth
Publisher: Harper Collin’s Children’s Books
Pages: 489
Series: Diverget #1

Description:

Beatrice "Tris" Prior has reached the fateful age of sixteen, the stage at which teenagers in Veronica Roth's dystopian Chicago must select which of five factions to join for life. Each faction represents a virtue: Candor, Abnegation, Dauntless, Amity, and Erudite. To the surprise of herself and her selfless Abnegation family, she chooses Dauntless, the path of courage. Her choice exposes her to the demanding, violent initiation rites of this group, but it also threatens to expose a personal secret that could place her in mortal danger. Veronica Roth's young adult Divergent trilogy launches with a captivating adventure about love and loyalty playing out under most extreme circumstances.

My Review:

"Tris" thinks taking the test won't be too hard.  She surprises herself when she becomes labeled by her tester as a Divergent which puts her in different categories where the choice lays with her with path she will choose.  Her brother indicates to her that she should choose what she wants and not what is expected.

The life of Dauntless is brutal at least, using guns, combat, and much worse.  She begins to question herself on the path she has chosen.  Whether it was the right one. She becomes know as the first to jump.  Al becomes the first to fight.  She quickly makes friends with Will and Christina.

Factions start rising up against Factions using Dauntless as killing machines, it is up to Tris's family and Tobias and Tris to fight against them.

Can't wait to see what happens in the next book this one was amazing to say the least!

Gratitude Blog Hop Guest Post by: Raven c.s. McCracken

What I am thankful for
by: Raven c.s McCracken

As a writer, I'm thankful that my readers like my work. Writing, aside from being a compulsion, is one of the only things that I have complete control over. Since my fire 3 years ago, and the subsequent loss of all my possessions, I have come to be thankful for every day above ground. Nearly losing my life shook me out of a long complacency that had stopped me from writing. For years, I had let my desk collect dust-after creating Synnibarr in the early 1990s, a successful role-playing gaming system, I was content. Then came the inferno (roommate using both candles and tequila one night equaled disaster.)

In the wake of the burn, I was completely adrift ... lost ... depressed ... suicidal even, and what came to my rescue, aside from all my friends, was my rebuilt computer. It seemed that, through a quirk of fate, my hard drive had survived!

As strange as it may sound, I suddenly felt that the fire was just what I needed ... It forged something deep inside. Without it, I may well have never written another book, let alone four this year! In a world where all seems uncertain, writing is my bastion of comfort. Ideas are so exciting to explore-new plots and characters all help me enjoy life and capture it, in print, where it will hopefully endure forever.

I think back to my youth, and the books that made my life worth living. Those works carried me through dark times and taught me much about life. Now, as an author myself, I'm thankful for the opportunity to be able to make the same contribution through my writing.

And while writing novels is something I love, creation of a universe, where players can act out their deepest desires is, in my mind, something even more extraordinary! Unlike a novel, where all is completely my creation, a role-playing game adds the variable of the players. I build the universe, write the story, but the players live in it, push it, and make the adventure much more than a novel could possibly become. I am thankful for having written stories, rules, settings, and fictionalized diary accounts that still please the thousands of Synners around our Worldship Earth!

Looking forward, over the next year, I hope to have the best of both writing worlds: to release a new, revised version of my World of Synnibarr game as well as books set in my "Worldship Centiverse." I also plan to continue exploring other characters and settings in new novels as I did with this year's The Brides, Merlin's Knot, Velocity Syndrome and It's Always Spring Break Somewhere in the Galaxy.

Again, my thanks to all the readers and their support - you make it all worthwhile.

In this never-before-seen short story by New York Times bestselling authors Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, readers witness Link's heart-racing transformation.

My Review:
a quaint little small tale about what happened when Link got bit by the hybrid John in book 2 of the Castor Chronicles.  Link thought the worst of his problems were when he despised his mother cooking but more things are going on then he knows about.  And then there is the drama Riley is facing as a mortal girl, ex-siren how will she handle it?

Confronted by danger, betrayed, and loss at every turn, the Blue Bloods must find the will to fight--and love--another day.

My Review:

The Blue Bloods are back and looking for saving in all the wrong places.  Sky and Jack are searching in Alexandria to learn that where they really need to be is Cairo.  Mimi and Oliver also in Cairo to rescue Kingsley who is in 7th level of Hell.  We also meet some unlikely characters in this book.  Lennox brothers who use to be part of Kingsley's team.

Mimi begins to wonder after she talks to Kingsley whether he ever loved her.  Oliver trusts Mimi about as far as he can throw her.  Jack is trying everything he can think of to severe the bond with Mimi without killing each other.  And Sky thinks she may be with child and doesn't realize the bond is killing her slowly.  We also learn more about Allegra and her bond Charles Force.

What a great and thrilling journey this book takes you on.  I love the writing style and the stories in general how they end up overlapping each other.  Can't wait to read the next one!

Crossed by: Ally Condie Review

Title: Crossed
Author: Ally Condie
Publisher: Dutton Books

Series: Matched Triology
Format: Hardcover (Target)
Description:
Rules are different
Outside The Society.
Chasing down an uncertain future, Cassie makes her way to the Outer Provinces in pursuit of Ky--taken by the Society to his sure death--only to find that he has escaped into the majestic, but treacherous canyons.  On this wild frontier are glimmers of a different life and the enthralling promise of rebellion.  But even as Cassia sacrifices everything to reunite with Ky, ingenious surprises  from Xander may change the game once again.

My Review:

Cassia is an aberration now,  trying to find Ky also now again an aberration.  Cassia ends up friending Indie and Ky friends Vick and Eli all doing their best to survive the horror of the Outer Provinces.  Before Cassia left Xander stole a bunch of blue, green and red pills for her.  During her travel to find Ky she took on, without Indie knowing right away.  Indie let Cassia know the meaning of the pills.

Finally finding Ky Cassia and Indie are determined to find The Rising.  Ky explains to Cassia and Indie about how Vick died.  They stumble across Hunter a farmer who stayed behind with Sarah a sick girl.  They bargain with Hunter to find The Rising.  Ky wants nothing to do with the rising, but decides later on he would rather be with Cassie then without and joins the rising.

Ky, Indie and Cassia are given different missions for the rising.  Some going back to the society and some being pilots.

Cassia also learns Xander has a secret to tell her, Ky knows what it is but won't tell her as it's Xander's secret.  Indie thinks she knows what is happening, but can't be positive.

What a great book and series I love how they are rising up against the Society and will be curious to how it all plays out in the end.

Book Trailers

As it is Saturday night I got to thinking whether people get into a book if they watch a trailer.  Or whether or not people really are into book trailers.  Usually that is what attracts people to movies so I find myself wondering if that applies to books as well.  I know I've seen a few but not sure that makes me want to run out and buy the book.  I am more apt to see what fellow friends/ book bloggers have to say on an author or book series.  Or I will look into a book if it's a cheap deal. (God that sounds bad)

I guess where I have issues with book trailers are when people who make them attach actors to it, they may not be how I envisioned certain characters to be.  As being a book blogger I try not to weigh down my site with those trailers as they can be really big sometimes and then the blog loads slower.

I'm just really curious to hear how others think about book trailers and whether they buy a book based on them.  Feel free to weigh in on this discussion.  I would love to hear what you all think about it.

Hot Water Sneak Peak

Here is a sneak peak into Hot Water the newest book by Erin Brockovich with CJ Lyons.  I hope everyone will check it out.  I will be reviewing it at a later date!

Hot Water by Erin Brockovich: Chapter 1
By Erin Brockovich with CJ Lyons,
Author of Hot Water

Summer in the mountains of West Virginia has a magic of its own, like a fairy tale come true. For me, it was a fairy tale paid for with blood.

It was August. After five months back home in Scotia (population 864) I'd just about gotten used to folks looking away from me and mumbling about how I'd gotten the man I loved killed and almost got my dad and son killed and just about drowned the entire valley in toxic sludge.

"That's AJ Palladino," they'd say, crossing to the other side of the street as I passed, in case I rubbed off on them. "Yeah, that AJ Palladino."

I ignored them. Didn't much care what people said about me as long as they didn't take it out on my nine-year-old, David. And, I have to admit, Scotia did treat David like the hero his dad had once been. They embraced him despite his two disabilities (or abilities, depending on your point of view): having cerebral palsy, which left him mostly wheelchair-bound, and being a genius.

Despite the town's acceptance of him, David still wasn't so sure about Scotia. He was hit hard by the death of his dad. I tried everything, even enrolled him in some online courses. Stuff I didn't understand but he was interested in, like the Phonology of Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphics and Einstein, Oppenheimer, Feynman: Physics in the 20th Century. He'd bury himself in them, working like a fever, finishing a semester's worth of material in a few weeks, and then would promptly slide back into boredom and despair.

Given my family's tendency for obsessions -- addictions, really, holding on too hard, too long -- I was more than a bit worried.

My friend Ty Stillwater, a sheriff's deputy K-9 officer, and his partner, Nikki, a beautiful Belgium Malinois, finally broke David free from his mourning.

Ty somehow found a way to make wheelchair accessible every mountain adventure that a boy could love. He and David would leave at first light and show up again for dinner at my gram's kitchen covered in battle scars. Once, Ty took David rafting down the New River, and they came back half-drowned, sunburned, and sporting matching black eyes that they refused to tell us how they got. They would burst into laughter every time they caught sight of each other.

I loved hearing David laugh but couldn't help but worry each time he left. For too many years I'd raised David alone, and it was difficult getting used to sharing him with others who loved him as much as I did. Not to mention the fact that I was and am a total control freak, especially about David. But I suffered in silence -- David hates it when I try to rein in his independence.

Besides, I was busy enough with work to take my mind mostly off David's scrapes and bruises and poison ivy. My new business partner, Elizabeth Hardy, the legal half of our consumer advocacy firm, turned out to have a gift for negotiation, so our first few cases ended quickly and happily for our clients and were profitable for us. All in all, summer felt enchanted, magical.

Even the weather cooperated. The storm clouds that gathered every afternoon remained empty threats. They'd scowl down at Scotia, then scurry away to dump their rain elsewhere.

But sooner or later, the storm has to break and you're going to get soaked.

Which was how I came to be yelling at the man in the Armani suit.

I knew it was an Armani suit because I'd dealt with enough of them when I'd worked in D.C. Not sure how they did it, but it seemed as if every suit jacket had an attitude sewn into the lining: money can buy anything.

Well, it wasn't buying me.

Elizabeth and I hadn't risked everything -- including our lives -- to start this advocacy firm just to be dictated to by a guy who happened to have enough money to indulge his taste in designer suits.

Armani guy's name was Owen Grandel, and he'd flown all the way up from South Carolina to consult with Elizabeth and me. He was in his late thirties, trim in that personal-trainer executive way, with a shaved head that focused your attention on his dark eyes and spray-tan complexion.

He had not come to Scotia to be abused. Or so his expression informed me without bothering with words.

"We aren't in the business of whitewashing a corporation's dirty laundry," I continued, in the mood for a fight and quite happy that Grandel was obliging.

He said nothing. Simply crossed his arms over his chest, leaned his shoulders back, and smiled. The kind of smile you give a precocious kid who's acting out and you're tolerating his behavior just because you know how wrong he is.

David hates it when I smile at him that way.

Thankfully Elizabeth stepped between us before I tried to wipe that smile off Grandel's face. We were in the living room of her house -- which doubled as our office space -- and she had just brought coffee on a tray. "I'm sorry, Mr. Grandel, we're out of cream. Will milk do?"

I rolled my eyes as she almost curtsied. Then, while Grandel busied himself mixing and stirring his coffee, finally taking a seat in the Queen Anne chair beside the fireplace, Elizabeth glanced over her shoulder at me with a glare that could have sparked tinder.

Play nice, she mouthed at me, as if! were the one making trouble. She sat down across from Grandel, smoothing her skirt and crossing her ankles like a lady before reaching for her own cup of coffee.

This is why I usually let Elizabeth handle the suits. I'm more of a field person -- get me out there with the regular folks and I'll get to the truth of what's what and who's who and figure out a way to fix things. Then it's up to Elizabeth to cross the legal "t's," negotiate a workable solution for all parties, and collect our paycheck.

So far it's been a pretty good system. Until today.

"I'm not sure that you understand exactly what we do, Mr. Grandel." Elizabeth leaned across the table to snag a sugar cube, her sleeve brushing against his knee.

I barely contained my snort. It was very obvious Grandel didn't understand anything except what his money could buy.

"Oh, but I do, Ms. Hardy." He leaned back and crossed his legs, watching her through half-shut eyes.

When I worked in D.C., I knew men like him. Smooth, charming. Sociopaths. Women would fall all over themselves to do whatever they wanted. Poor sad, he had no idea who he was up against. Elizabeth wasn't like that.

"Which is why I'm willing to pay extra. Above your customary fee schedule."With an elegant flourish of his manicured fingers, he slid a check from his pocket and placed it in front of her.

Elizabeth has a pretty good poker face, but I could tell the amount on the check rocked her. She took a sip of coffee and set her cup down beside the check, ignoring it.

"That's half," he persisted when she didn't leap at his offer. "You get the same when you finish."

''And who decides when the job is finished?"

I stepped forward, unwilling to believe she was even considering.

She glared at me and I froze.

"You do, of course." His voice was a low bedroom purr.

Her mouth twisted as she considered. Then she stood in one graceful movement, taking the check with her. "We need to consult about this."

"Of course," he said with a gracious wave of his hand, as if it were his house, not hers. "Take all the time you need."

I know my mouth dropped open because I felt it snap shut again when she took my arm and dragged me out of the room and across the hall to our shared office in what used to be the dining room. She closed the door behind us, then sagged back against it.

"Holy shit, AJ."

The check dropped from her fingers, flitting through the air on the sultry August breeze wafting in through the open windows, and curled up on the hardwood floor, face down. I picked it up, turned it over.

My face went cold as I read the amount. Counted the zeroes. Five of them. My mind did a back flip -- no, that figure couldn't be right -- then sloshed right side up as I looked again.

Half a million dollars. Which meant a million for the entire job if we took it.

Enough to send David to any college he wanted, to bankroll our company for the next decade, to be able to work on projects that really mattered. Freedom, security, opportunity.

All I'd have to do was betray everything I believed in and let myself be bought.

The Secret Circle by: L.J. Smith Review

Title: The Secret Circle The Initiation
Author: L.J. Smith
Publisher: Harper Teen
Pages: 396
Series: The Secret Circle
Format: Paperback (Target)
Description:
The Circle’s Power has lured her home...
Forced to move from sunny California to gloomy New England, Cassie longs for her old life.  Even so, she feels a strange kinship to a terrifying group of teens who seem to rule her school.  Initiated into the coven of witches that’s controlled New Salem for hundreds of years, she’s drawn into the Secret Circle, a thrill that’s both intoxicating and deadly.
But when she falls for the mysterious and intriguing Adam, Cassie must choose whether to resist temptation or risk dark forces to get what she wants--even if it means that one wrong move could ultimately destroy her.

My Review:

This book follows the story of Cassie Blake who lives with her mom.  They had been living in California but after taking a vacation to Cape Cod, they end up moving in with Cassie's grandmother who's getting older and in need of assistance.

Cassie starts school and ends up on the wrong side of everyone.  Finally Diana helps Cassie to belong and invites her to sit with "the cool kids" Cassie finally feels like she is gaining control.  When a fellow student Kori dies under unnatural consequences Cassie gets invited to join The Secret Circle.  A group of witches who are part of a long ancestry of witches.

Cassie also meets up with Adam a boy she had met on the beach of Cape Cod she felt a strong attachment to Adam.  When she meets up with him in New Salem he's dating Diana and Cassie would do anything to keep the truth from coming out.  Faye the "bad girl" of the group finds devasting information about a kiss between Adam and Cassie and holds it against her as blackmail.  Now Cassie is stuck being a toy to Faye doing things she wouldn't normally do.  How far will Cassie go?

What a great book, definitely alot different then The Vampire Diaries.  I love reading about the witch aspect and how the circle deals with things.  Just started The Captive hope it's just as good.

Annexed by: Rebecca McKinnon Review

Title: Annexed
Author: Rebecca McKinnon
Source: Author Sent E-Book for Tour
Pages: 296
Series: The Refuge Trilogy Bk 1
Description:

Friends or family?
Desire or responsibility?
She thought she’d made her choice.

Now, finding herself trapped in a world splintered from her own, Narissa is determined to return home. Learning that the means of crossing between realities has been lost, she vows to find the elusive gateway.

Narissa doesn’t plan to make friends. She certainly doesn’t intend to fall in love.
Faced with the decision, will she choose the life she wants, or return to the world where she belongs?

My Review:

This was a great book, Narissa finds herself in The Refuge, at first she is confused and wanting to go home.  She finds that won't happen for a while.  She tries to make the best of it, she makes friends with Mac who she ends up living with his parents.  She also meets Daman who forms an unlikely friendship.  She also wrongs Crissy, who is out to get Narissa into all sorts of trouble.

Narissa also has to be careful not to corrupt the locals with what she knows and as she learns their history she learns they spend most of their time living in fear in certain situations.  Not treading to far in the water, as one example.  Also seeking the council for every question they have.  Narissa is able to sneak in one thing from our world, an ipod.  Narissa does form great friendships with the people around her, which is more than she had in our world.  Her big regret is her sister she left behind.

Definitely a great book really pulls you in wanting you to know more of their world and whether Narissa will ever get out of The Refuge or will she stay forever.

Forever by: Maggie Stiefvater Review

Title: Forever (Arc)
Author: Maggie Stiefvater
Series: Wolves of Mercy Falls
Publisher: Scholastic Press
Pages: 386
Source: Book Blog Giveaway

Description:

Then:

When Sam met Grace, he was a wolf and she was a girl.  Eventually he found a way to become a boy, and their love moved from a curious distance to the intense closeness of shared lives.

Now:

That should have been the end of their story.  But Grace was not meant to stay human.  Now she is the wolf.  And the wolves of Mercy Falls are about to be killed in one final, spectacular hunt.

Forever:

Sam would do anything for Grace.  But can one boy and one love really change a hostile, predatory world?  The past, the present, and the future are about to collide in one pure moment—a moment of death or life, farewell or forever.

My Review:

This book was definitely worth checking out.  Instead of being told primarily by Grace this one followed, Cole, Sam and Isabel.  Isabel as her father decided to hunt the wolves to kill them.  Cole trying desperately to figure out how to un-turn Beck to find out how to move the wolves.

And Sam as he looks for Grace and deals with the after math of the situation.  We also learn what happened to Olivia and saw how Grace and Sam worked together to move the wolves.  A great ending to a great trilogy.

Dirty Work by: Stuart Woods Review

Title: Dirty Work
Author: Stuart Woods
Publisher: G. P. Putnam’s Sons
Pages: 317
Series: Stone Barrington Novel

Description:

Stone Barrington hits the streets of Manhattan in search of a dangerous woman--and the circumstances behind the death of a very rich husband--in this sexy new thriller in the New York Times--bestselling series.

Back in New York City after the London adventure of The Short Forever, cop-turned lawyer Stone Barrington is assigned by his law firm, Woodman & Weld, to aid an important client in her quest to dump her unfaithful husband.  Stone thinks the job is ordinary dirty work, but then things take a murderous turn, and the FBI and a foreign intelligence service become involved.

Stone is pleasantly surprised to run into Carpenter, the beautiful british agent introduced in The Short Forever, who is in the city to begin an investigation of her own, one whose subject she refuses to reveal.  But he suspects that her case might have some connection to the errants husband’s, and knows that he and Dino, his former NYPD partner, are about to face the most bizarre and challenging assignment of their colorful careers.

My Review:

This book had me on the edge of my seat wondering if they would catch the elusive murderer.  La Biche was the cover name of a young woman who witnessed her parents death at the hands of the British Intelligence and is out for vengeance whichever way she can get it.

Stone Barrington tries to help her, desperately fighting against Carpenter who just wants to eliminate her. When Stone thinks he has a plan in place to insure the girls safety, all things go array and Stone is left with things all upside down.
