My New Books

These are the books I got yesterday via Nook Books:

Description:

Jessica Fletcher is pitching in to help Cabot Cove's first Lobster Festival by writing an article about the lifestyle of the local lobstermen. But instead of getting the story, she becomes tangled in a net of intrigue and murder. And she better sink her claws into this puzzling case-or she may find herself becoming the next catch of the day.

Description:

Foreign correspondent Dinah Davis has returned home to South Carolina to reconnect with the man she always promise to marry if another opportunity didn't present itself. But before she can find her friend, she encounters his brother, a man determined to waylay her "backup plan."

Description:

Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war– and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

Description:

Opposites attract, but they don't last. At least that's what improper Southern belle Maggie Forsythe thinks after being unceremoniously dumped two weeks before getting hitched to a man even her mother approves of. Maggie has never given two figs what anyone thinks, so why is she hiding away from her South Carolina Low Country home?

That is until concerned - albeit scheming - friends arrive with three options:
One: Sit and mope.
Two: Go home to her gallery.
Three: Help them build a house for a needy family and make a difference for once.

But one look at Maggie, and project foreman Josh Parker knows what kind of sweet-tea-swilling debutante he's dealing with. Even if she does know her way around a circular saw. Sure, they have enough sparks to ignite a bonfire, but he's corn bread to her caviar. And if there's anything he's learned from growing up broke, it's better to aim low than risk everything and lose.

Description:

One choice can transform you--or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves--and herself--while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.

Tris's initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable--and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.

"New York Times" bestselling author Veronica Roth's much-anticipated second book of the dystopian "Divergent" series is another intoxicating thrill ride of a story, rich with hallmark twists, heartbreaks, romance, and powerful insights about human nature.

Description:

Thorn Matthews is a Finder, a person with the psychic ability to find things just by touching an object. The visions she gets from objects—events and memories—are what guide her to the things that need to be found.

When Thorn locates a mysterious locket, it leads to a shocking and grim discovery. Now she’s implicated in a crime and surrounded by people she’s just met at her new school, any one of whom could be hiding a terrible secret. To clear her name, Thorn reluctantly uses her music skills to enter a school talent competition, which she suspects is part of the killer’s cover. Could one of her new friends be a murderer?

Description:

Oh, God! She's in love with her preacher.

It's just that he organized building a cozy home for her and her children at a time when the future looked darker than blackstrap molasses. And now that Big Max has burdened him with not one secret, but two, he knows his priorities should be mending fences between father and daughter--but he can't help trying to build a place for himself in her heart first....

Description:

Olivia isn't immune to gossip herself. Will she stay with Jack, the guy who runs our local paper, or will she get back with her ex? Inquiring minds want to know!
But the really big gossip has to do with the dead guy — the man who died at a local bed-and-breakfast. Who is he and why did he show up there in the middle of the night? Roy McAfee, our local private investigator, is absolutely determined to find out. I hope he does — and then I'll let you know! See you soon. . .

But things change, and after retiring to Tennessee, he gets that feeling. Jenkins becomes a cop again and is thrown headlong into a murder investigation and a steaming kettle of fish, down-home style.

The victim, Cecil Lovejoy, couldn't have deserved it more. His death was the inexorable result of years misspent and appears to be no great loss, except the prime suspect is Sam's personal friend.
Jenkins' abilities are attacked when Lovejoy's influential widow urges politicians to reassign the case to state investigators.

Feeling like "a pork chop at a bar mitzvah" in his new workplace, Sam suspects something isn't kosher when the family tries to force him out of the picture.
In true Jenkins style, Sam turns common police practice on its ear to insure an innocent man doesn't fall prey to an imperfect system and the guilty party receives appropriate justice.
A NEW PROSPECT takes the reader through a New South resolutely clinging to its past and traditional way of keeping family business strictly within the family.

New Kindle Books #1

While it is snowing like no tomorrow outside I am spending my time adding to my kindle collection. So I thought I'd share with everyone the books I got:

Need by: Carrie Jones
Kindle Format
Zara White suspects there's a freaky guy semi-stalking her. She's also obsessed with phobias. And it's true, she hasn't exactly been herself since her stepfather died. But exiling her to shivery Maine to live with her grandmother? That seems a bit extreme. The move is supposed to help her stay sane...but Zara's pretty sure her mom just can't deal with her right now.

She couldn't be more wrong. Turns out the semi-stalker is not a figment of Zara's overactive imagination. In fact, he's still following her, leaving behind an eerie trail of gold dust. There's something not right - not human - in this sleepy Maine town, and all signs point to Zara.

In this creepy, compelling breakout novel, Carrie Jones delivers romance, suspense, and a creature you never thought you'd have to fear.

Her Last Letter by: Nancy C. Johnson
Kindle Format

In the Colorado mountain town of Glenwood Springs, not far from Aspen, artist/photographer Gwyn Sanders discovers a cryptic letter her sister Kelly left behind. The victim of a deadly hit and run, Kelly reveals she was sexually involved with her sister's boyfriend and is scared for her life. Both Gwyn and her remaining sister Linda have since married their boyfriends, so either could be guilty of murder. The sisters received a large inheritance before meeting these men, and know little of either man's background. Worse, both Gwyn and Linda love their husbands deeply, but steps must be taken to find the truth. And the truth is complicated. Is it one of the two men, or another previous lover? Or none of them? Danger abounds and everyone is a suspect as Gwyn tries with the help of a gifted private detective to track a killer

My Sister's Keeper by: Bill Benners
Kindle Format

Somebody is snatching the little girls of Wilmington, North Carolina, videotaping their rape, then tossing them in the Cape Fear River to drown. But when Richard Baimbridge's sister Martha is brutally attacked and left in a wheelchair while investigating these rapes for a newspaper, Richard rushes back to his coastal hometown to assist with her recovery only to be drawn by her into the dark underside of this quiet coastal community where he comes face to face with his tormented past and a dark family secret. My Sister's Keeper is a riveting suspense thriller that not only explores the special bond between a brother and a sister, but holds you in spellbinding suspense as it carries Richard through romance, action, and overwhelming terror. Come along if you dare.

When Justice Steps Out by: Cooper Sterling
Kindle Format

A Vigilante steps in when justice steps out…
There’s a serial killer loose in Cranberry County – trouble is, no one seems to care.
As the number of murdered pedophiles grows, single mother Detective Molly O’Brien is secretly pleased - but her partner Jake, follows the letter of the law, and is ruthless in his pursuit to find the vigilante. Enter FBI agent Luke Foreman who carries his own secrets, a bumbling detective who is compromising crime scenes, a hyperactive Chippendale Dancer who happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and worries he’s a suspect, and a gun found by Molly in her best friends closet that matches the one used in the crimes.
**This book does not contain explicit violence and if it were turned into a movie, it would probably garner a PG rating.
Not as serious as a Grisham novel – nor as humorous as Janet Evanovich – it is somewhere in between.
Proceeds of this book will be donated to organizations that help children who have been the victims of violent crimes.

Live Free or Die by: Jessie Crockett
Kindle Format

Life in tiny Winslow Falls, New Hampshire, is pretty darned good-until an arsonist decides to ruin everyone's Christmas. The way volunteer fire chief and local postmistress Gwen Fifield sees it, her life in rural New Hampshire is as good as it can be. Sure, she's gained twenty pounds, and her property taxes have skyrocketed, but her basement didn't flood this year, and the general store started delivering pizza. All things considered, Gwen's got no complaints ... that is, until she finds a body sizzled like a sausage in the smoldering remains of the Winslow Falls museum. When an artifact is traced to an immigrant family, most local residents are quick to blame the outsiders. But clues from the past convince Gwen that the town she's always trusted is harboring a home-grown murderer.

What made these great finds is none of these books alone cost 5.00 they were all under.  Which I thought was great in itself.

One Insular Tahiti by: Thea Atkinson

I just got this book via the author on Goodreads
Here's the book description:

Luke MacIsaac is dead but not restfully dead. What he needs is to find a way out of the watery afterlife that swamps him with half remembered horrors of a past so vivid he could be reliving it.

He can't let this happen.
This is when he notices Astrid, a newborn fighting for her life. She isn’t supposed to survive her birth, but it occurs to Luke that if he wills her to be his mother, he can escape the anguish of his supposed insular Tahiti. Now all he has to do is wait.
But is the cost of his deliverance too great for Astrid? And what is the connection between her and Luke's own past that has him battling memories of a younger brother--memories that lead him to regret his choice, even if it is too late.
One Insular Tahiti is a dark literary fiction tale of one’s souls search for redemption.

Perfect Score by Susan Roebuck Description: Feckless, exasperating Alex Finch is a rich, handsome and talented singer/songwriter who longs for two things: a career as a professional rock singer, and to have his love for Sam Barrowdale reciprocated. But drifter Sam's two aims are simply to earn enough money to pay his sister's medical bills and to hide from the world his reading/writing and speech disability. At this time the word "dyslexia" is generally unknown so to most people he's just a "retard". From the severe knocks life's dealt him, Sam's developed a tough outer coating and he has no time for a spoilt, selfish guitar player.

Despite his defects, Alex's love for Sam never wavers and when Sam unexpectedly disappears, Alex begins a somewhat bungling quest to find him, only to discover that Sam has a fearful enemy: Alex's powerful and influential yet sociopathic uncle.

As Alex spirals downwards towards alcoholism, many questions need answering. Just why did Alex's evil uncle adopt him at age eleven yet deny him any affection? And what's the mystery behind Alex's father's death?

Both seem to face unbeatable odds. Are they doomed to follow separate paths forever?
