Catch of the Day by: Kristan Higgins

Title: Catch of the Day
Author: Kristan Higgins
Publisher: Harlequin
Pages: 377
Format: Paperback

Description:

First Date ala Maggie: Take one lovelorn diner owner (me), a generous helping of nosy local gossips, a dollop of envy at married sister’s perfect life, a splash of divine intervention (my matchmaking priest). Combine ingredients with one adorable puppy, add a strong but silent lobsterman with a hidden heart of gold and watch the sparks fly.

My Thoughts:

If I haven’t said it enough I love the books by Kristan Higgins, they have a splash of romance through out the book, add a huge pile of humor, mixed in with family and friends and I couldn’t ask for anything more. This one is just as great as the others Maggie is unlucky in love everything from a boyfriend dumping her with his current girlfriend in tow, to her love of her priest that she professes in front of everyone, to the quiet lobsterman who makes her swoon. Add to that her meddling friends and family to make it all the more fun.

Maggie steps up to the plate when all sorts of rumors are flying about Malone and her friend Chantel to the extend of sharing her relationship with Malone to the whole town. Having not much left to loose she lays it all on the line for Malone regardless of the outcome!

Lucy Lang isn’t looking for fireworks…

She’s looking for a nice, decent man. Someone who’ll mow the lawn, flip chicken on the barbeque, teach their future children to play soccer. But most important… someone who won’t inspire the slightest stirring in her heart…or anywhere else. A young widow, Lucy can’t risk that kind of loss again. But sharing her life with a cat named Fat Mikey and the Black Widows at the family bakery isn’t enough either. So it’s goodbye to Ethan, her hot but entirely inappropriate “friend with privileges” and hello to a man she can marry.
Too bad Ethan Mirabelli isn’t going anywhere. As far as he’s concerned, what she needs might be right under her nose. But can he convince her that the next best thing can really be forever?

My Thoughts:

This book like all Kristan Higgins books was great. Lucy and Ethan go round and round trying to get it right, if Lucy can’t get past her dead husband being in front of everything. I enjoyed learning about Jimmy and Ethan and how sometimes one steps aside when love is involved. A great romance book by a great new romance author!

Somebody to Love by: Kristan Higgins

Title: Somebody to Love
Author: Kristan Higgins
Publisher: Harlequin
Pages: 425
Format: Paperback

Description:

After her father loses the family fortune in an insider-trading scheme, single mom Parker Welles is faced with some hard decisions. First order of business: go to Gideon’s Cove, Maine, to sell the only thing she now owns—a decrepit house in need of some serious flipping. When her father’s wingman, James Cahill, asks to go with her, she’s not thrilled — …even if he is fairly gorgeous and knows his way around a toolbox.
Having to fend for herself financially for the first time in her life, Parker signs on as a florist’s assistant and starts to find out who she really is. Maybe James isn’t the glib lawyer she always thought he was. And maybe the house isn’t the only thing that needs a little TLC….

My Thoughts:

I found myself loving various parts of this book. When Parker Welles finds out her father has screwed life up with killing her trust fund and her sons, she travels to Gideon’s Cove Maine to flip a house. What she doesn’t count on falling for her father’s former lawyer James Cahill. The people of Gideon’s Cove welcome Parker. She learns alot about them and herself. She also falls in love with James Cahill the attorney her father spent more time with then his own daughter. He learns about James dark secrets in his family. We also get to see how Malone and Maggie are doing and of course Parker’s friends Ethan and Lucy. Definitely great to go back and see how past characters are doing. I also enjoyed watching Parker sort through her feelings and figure out what she wants. Definitely a great book, I really enjoy reading Kristan Higgins books. My new favorite contemporary romance writer!

Deadlocked by: Charlaine Harris

Pages: 335
Format: ebook
Description:

It’s vampire politics as usual around the town of Bon Temps, but never before have they hit so close to Sookie’s heart…
Growing up with telepathic abilities, Sookie Stackhouse realized early on there were things she’d rather not know. And now that she’s an adult, she also realizes that some things she knows about, she’d rather not see—like Eric Northman feeding off another woman. A younger one.

There’s a thing or two she’d like to say about that, but she has to keep quiet—Felipe de Castro, the Vampire King of Louisiana (and Arkansas and Nevada), is in town. It’s the worst possible time for a human body to show up in Eric’s front yard—especially the body of the woman whose blood he just drank.

Now, it’s up to Sookie and Bill, the official Area Five investigator, to solve the murder. Sookie thinks that, at least this time, the dead girl’s fate has nothing to do with her. But she is wrong. She has an enemy, one far more devious than she would ever suspect, who’s set out to make Sookie’s world come crashing down.

My Thoughts:

This being book 12 I see what people are saying about the books loosing their touch. Sookie is knee deep with the sups again too many to count. The big thing going on is a woman winding up dead and Sookie’s bf Eric being the most likely suspect as he just fed from her. Sookie also finds out that Alcide’s enforcer doesn’t like Sookie for who knows what purpose. Jason is finally settling down with Michele as they plan their nuptials. Tara and JB are getting ready for their twins. Sookie is finding herself wanting a simple life, but dating a vamp doesn’t lead to a simple life.
I fear what the next book will bring with Sookie alone no vamps drooling over her. Her house guests have left. I wonder what will happen in the final story. I really felt that some characters were ending their run, and yet still wonder who Sookie will wind up with. My money is on Sam as he has never used her for her gift, or made her do things she doesn’t want too.
