Description:

The first book in the delicious new Emergency Dessert Squad Mystery series from national bestselling author Laura Bradford.

With her rent rising faster than her pie crust, bakery owner Winnie Johnson had hoped to be rescued by an inheritance from her wealthy friend and neighbor Gertrude Redenbacher. Instead all she inherits is the widow’s hostile hissing tabby, Lovey, and a vintage ambulance, restored by Gertrude’s late husband. As her dream crumbles, Winnie makes her final delivery—a peach pie to an elderly widower. But she finds Bart Wagner lying on his kitchen floor, smothered by a pillow.

To comfort her frightened and grieving neighbors, Winnie comes to the rescue with her baked goods—and an idea is born: dessert delivery via her ambulance and a new business called the Emergency Dessert Squad. When she’s not speeding to the scenes of dessert emergencies, Winnie is also racing to track down Bart’s killer—before she needs to call a real ambulance for the next victim...

My Thoughts:

This book is the first in the Emergency Dessert Squad Mystery series in this one Winnie Johnson finds herself in a lawyer's office listening to a reading of the will for her friend and neighbor Gertrude Redenbacher who has left Winnie her cat Lovey who seems to not like Winnie much and a restored ambulance restored by Gertrude's late husband.  Winnie is slightly disappointed as she thought she would be able to keep her business but sometimes when one door closes another opens.  Winnie honoring a promise to deliver pies on Tuesday to an elderly widower Bart when she arrives to deliver the pie she finds Bart dead.  Who is out to kill the elderly man?  The other big question being why aren't the police doing a thorough investigation?  With Winnie out of work she decides she is going to find out what happened to Bart and make sure it doesn't happen to anymore of her friends.  Can she solve the murder in time or is she next on the ride to the great beyond?

I love how Winnie doesn't give up and takes what she is handed and makes masterpieces with it.  I also liked how she fights when she thinks her friend was murdered and doesn't just accept that he died due to being old.  I enjoy the people Winnie interacts with Mr. Nelson, Bridget who works on a local paper.  I people at the local college and of course who worker Renee.  Such a great mystery you wonder if she will ever figure out who killed him.  Can't wait to see what is next from the Emergency Dessert Squad!
