Description:

Sixteen-year-old Maya is just an ordinary teen in an ordinary town. Sure, she doesn't know much about her background - the only thing she really has to cling to is an odd paw-print birthmark on her hip - but she never really put much thought into who her parents were or how she ended up with her adopted parents in this tiny medical-research community on Vancouver Island.

Until now.

Strange things have been happening in this claustrophobic town - from the mountain lions that have been approaching Maya to her best friend's hidden talent for "feeling" out people and situations, to the sexy new bad boy who makes Maya feel...different. Combine that with a few unexplained deaths and a mystery involving Maya's biological parents and it's easy to suspect that this town might have more than its share of skeletons in its closet.

My Thoughts:

This book follows Maya, Daniel, Nicole, Sam, Hayley, Rafe, Annie and Corey along with their friends and family who live in a secluded town of Salmon Creek on Vancouver Island.  In the beginning we see an interaction with Maya and her best friend Serena who meets a horrible demise.  Ruled an accident but both Maya and Daniel have trouble buying it what really happened to their friend and why?

Maya is also excited to get her birthmark darkened in a paw print.  That leads to lots of issues at the tattoo parlor as the woman's grandmother informs Maya and her mother what the tattoo represents.  A Skin walker which is apparently what Maya is.

There is also someone new in town Mina Lee under the guise of being a reporter but secretly digging into the town and teenagers to find out as much as she can before she finds out anything she winds up dead.  What did she want and why so interested in these kids?

I love Kelley Armstrong some of the things she write I could never think of she has such a vivid imagination when it comes to The Darkest Powers or Darkness Rising series.  I always find myself feeling like I'm right there with the characters experiencing what they are going through and loving every minute of it!
