I Am Number 4

I Am Number Four follows the life of an Alien from the planet Lorien. He is one of 6 sent form that planet to escape an invading alien species. It is book one in a series of Six to be published.

John Smith/Number 4 is your typical American teenager. He's in hiding in Ohio, and posing as a typical teen, with most of the same trials that teens go through, however, he's special, as an alien, he has abilities that, while not present at the beginning of the story, grow as it progresses. Most of his time is spent trying to both hide his true nature, and also evading the alien species that followed him and his 5 counterparts to Earth to destroy them, and Earth along with them. He' almost gives up but then, he falls in love with one of his classmates, Sarah, and he decides that he now has something worth both living for and fighting for.

I have to say, it was not the most mentally challenging book I've ever read, and it took an eternity to get going. I can only assume that since it was the first book in the series, that a lot of the plot of this one was spent setting up the backstory of John/4, and his counterparts, a lot of which could have been much better woven into the story.

I would recommend this book to read, only if you really are desperate, and have NOTHING else to read.
